The Seventh Ternary

Seventh Ternary

The seventh ternary, arcana XIX, XX, XXI.

The 19th card, the Sun, is the Yod, the active (+) force of the ternary. The sun is the divine life within each thing that has manifested, from the lowest elemental form to the highest adept, and to the androgynous streams of consciousness in their latter stages of reintegration. This is the active force within each of us, seeking refinement and union.

The 20th card, Judgment is the 1st He, the passive (-) force of the ternary. Judgment is shown to us as a divine figure, delivering a message with the sound of the trumpet, and the people rising from the graves below, reborn and rejoicing. The Judgment is passive, yet contains the subtle creative forces of Life. This is symbolized by the child being the neutral element between the man and woman. The sound delivered by the trumpet is the word made form, symbolized by the cross on the flag, hanging from the trumpet.

At this point the child is born of the Sun and Judgment. The qualities that have been refined to this point, in all three aspects, the physical, spiritual and mental, work towards the point of reintegration with the absolute, or to be reborn and continue the alchemical process of purification.

This is the 21st card, the World, and is the Vau, neutral agent of the ternary. Born of the Sun and Judgment, the World holds all potential, for the transitory agent. The sum of the qualities of the three aspects, the mastery of the four elements, the realization and adherence to the law, are all displayed in the symbols of the card, the World. The woman standing is active, though she is almost naked, to hint at the passive and fecundative qualities of the gender. This creation is the transitory element of the Tetragrammaton.

The 2nd He, the Fool, is born of the sum of the three aspects shown by the three septenaries. Through these cycles he will at one point realize the divine truth and have succeeded in attaining reintegration with the absolute, the infinite.
