1 The Magician

The Magician

The Magician is the first of the Major Arana and has the number 1 associated with it. In the image of The Magician we see a young man, which is the hieroglyph symbol of the card. The young man is standing with one arm raised and one arm lowered, symbolizing the above and the below, but more importantly the two polar opposites are unified by his body, in the symbol of the Aleph. Which is one of the major ideas of this image, Unity, also represented by the number one.

Direction and purpose

I've done a little thinking about the direction of the site and its aim. Over time I will be making a few changes while still adding new information. I hope to better organize this site and its interests.

First, new addition is a Tarot card reader which casts up to three cards using the Mouni Sadhu Tarot card images. This is still in its early stages and will continue to be developed.

In the process of adding the book The Tarot Of The Bohemians by Papus to the library. This is a great book for explaining the mechanics of the Tarot system and the meanings of the symbolism of the images. Part 1 of 3, chapters 1 through 6, are available at this time. As other chapters are completed, they will be added.

Several changes have been made to the structure of the site. Some are visible and others are not. Be sure to update any bookmarks to the Library as that has been slightly reorganized.

Coming Soon: Oracle

Oracle is a small tarot and runes divination program written in Python. The program is completed but the card interpretations, spread information and user documentation needs to be written. This program features 11 spreads. A user journal, and an interpretation guide both of which can be modified by the user. Cast either runes or the Giovanni Vacchetta Tarot in black & white.

Online Calculator v0.2.1

Due to a few bugs with the previous version I have made some modifications and released v0.2.1. The changes that have been made are:

  • Fixed bug when pressing calculate with no word or phrase given.
  • Removed cipher selection menu.
  • Due to bug with the history feature, the history was removed.
  • Now the calculator will display the values for all five ciphers for words or phrases.

Originally published in the late 1800s by W. Wynn Westcott. This book is a great wealth of information on numbers. The first few chapters and prefaces are online in the Solitary Society Library.

New Online Calculator for English Gematria

A new tool has been added to the Solitary Society website. An English gematria calculator, online. There is no database associated with this application, other than the last five entries submitted. However this does offer all five ciphers which are also in Lexicon.
